Dafnios Rose – Douloufakis Dry wine

Protected Geographical Indication “CRETE”

Onion Skin Nuanced | Unique Blend | Finessed

Attractive light-pink colour with onion skin nuances. Characteristic aromas of dried jasmine, red fruits and star anise. At the same time, the strong presence of Rainier Cherries aromas keeps the nose very fresh, which is also achieved by the excellent acidity on the palate. Add a few marine and peppery notes here and you’ll understand why its vibrancy not only reflexes the thickness of the wine but also dominates in a sophisticated yet gripping ensemble

Dafnios Rosé Tasting Notes

Tasted inCountryTasted byPublished onVintageWine tasting notes
2023GreecePavlos Gegas, Wine Criticwww.gegas.gr2022Almost deep salmon in colour. The elegant aromatic profile of the nose initially veils early ester notes, tucking them into a dense layer of dark-toned and pink citrus, joined by a subtle hint of ripe persimmon and an even lighter touch of unripe apricot, with a brief suggestion of tomato marmalade. Fully ripe orange-coloured blossoms appear in the background, accompanied by a gentle peppery note that brings together spicy and herbal nuances.
Excellent on the palate, it avoids aromatic flamboyance, instead expressing a sense of tension, savouriness and seriousness. The body is nearly full, while the vibrant acidity reads the fruit beautifully, distributing the flavour profile with precision and faithfully reflecting the aromatic impression, placing slightly more emphasis on the red-citrus spectrum. Soft, barely perceptible tannins add freshness and a hint of minerality, with a well-judged balance of discreet residual sugars that makes the wine highly gastronomic.
The finish is long and very good, built on mineral foundations and marked acidity, playfully releasing its spicy and peppery notes into the vegetal and herbal arc that defines it, while seamlessly integrating the pronounced alcohol, which never protrudes. A firm 90 points for late summer and beyond, marking a very strong entry of this label into the rosé category.
